Alexander is a young, emotionally-repressed Scot who, upset by his Czechoslovakian mother's death, journeys to Prague to scatter her ashes and track down a piece of film that contains the only existing footage of his family.

Dr. Lauren is staying in Prague for a conference and falls in love with Czech writer Jiri Kolmar.

The protagonists are the same, only five years older: Kocourek Kolman, mother Kocourková, mother Kolmanová and father Kolman. Kocourek applies to study graphic design at the UMPRUM. He has not been accepted twice because there is a great interest in studying at this university, only a select few are accepted. Mother Kocourková has long given up on the dream that her son will study something proper and that she will ever understand him, and so she increasingly talks to herself with a bottle of vodka. Kolman, meanwhile, is studying in his second year at the University of Economics. But instead of lectures and seminars, he is only interested in his classmates. He packs one after another. He solves his exams and credits by fraud or bribery. Kocourek, on the other hand, is conscientious and hardworking and falls head over heels in love with the enchanting Júlia, who is also applying to the UMPRUM.

Son lives with his father in an old flat with an endless number of rooms and corridors. The grandfather died, but his corpse lies on the sofa in the living room. Guests come to the apartment sometimes for whom the father prepares in different ways and sets the boy up to the same attitude towards the guests. Every day, the father leaves no one knows where, and the boy remains alone and wanders through the corridors of the flat. On one of these walks, a boy hears subdued screams - they come from a room with an iron door. When he tries to see what's happening there through the peephole, his father appears. Son tries to escape but then faces another terror along the way. The boy seeks to find a way out, but his father suppresses all attempts. "Eternal" is an author film about the problems of a big state transferred to a small, strange family. By design, the film is a reasonably pessimistic metaphor for modern Russia.

A widow grieves for her husband. Her sister tries to console her. Too little, too late. Truths are revealed, love is suffering, but at least family is forever ...

A personal and political biography of the Octopus, or the Prague National Library project, but also a biography of the last years of the life of the author of this design, Jan Kaplický, who wrote in his diary in 1998: to win the competition and have one love. With this entry, read by Eliška Kaplicky at the beginning of the film, it is as if the world-class Czech architect wrote not only the "script" for the final decade of his life, but also for a film that follows the dramatic social story of creative imagination and the intimate relationship between a man and a woman.

The movie is based on a popular tale from the Basque Country and tells the story of a woman that becomes a widow the same day she gets married, and decides to keep living with the husband's dead body for 6 years.
